How we measure this
We price the same 40 products every week at every store. For each product we take the cheapest option, including any offer running that week. The index is the average of those weekly baskets, set to 100 in the first month we measured.
A store that could not price all 40 products is scaled up to the full basket. That total is an estimate. The table below shows how many of the 40 we found at each store, so you can see which totals to read with more care.
The same 40 products cost €40.29 more at the dearest chain than at the cheapest.

How we measured this
Every chain is charged for the same fixed basket, checked once a week. Monthly figures are the average of those weekly checks. Where a chain does not carry a product, its basket is scaled up from the products it does carry, so that total is an estimate. Loyalty-card and Bonus prices are not counted.
